Long-Range and Short-Range Ultrasonic Testing (LRUT & SRUT) are advanced non-destructive testing techniques used to inspect inaccessible or partially accessible areas of pipelines and structures. LRUT enables screening over long distances, while SRUT provides detailed evaluation of localized defects. At 2R Inspection, we offer both methods to help clients detect corrosion, wall loss, and cracks in critical assets without requiring full surface access or shutdowns.
LRUT (Long-Range Ultrasonic Testing) and SRUT (Short-Range Ultrasonic Testing) are complementary ultrasonic inspection methods used to evaluate the integrity of pipelines, pressure systems, and other hard-to-access assets. LRUT is designed for rapid screening over long distances — often up to tens of meters — detecting wall loss, corrosion, and large-scale defects without requiring extensive insulation removal or surface preparation. SRUT, on the other hand, focuses on smaller, more localized regions, offering high-resolution imaging of areas like pipe supports, nozzles, or tank bottoms.
At 2R Inspection, we offer both LRUT and SRUT services to provide a flexible, efficient solution for asset integrity assessment. LRUT is ideal for baseline inspection, corrosion mapping under insulation, and screening of buried or elevated lines. SRUT is used to confirm and characterize anomalies found during LRUT or other inspections. Our certified technicians use state-of-the-art guided wave and high-frequency ultrasonic equipment in accordance with standards such as ISO 18211 and ASME PCC-2. These techniques reduce downtime, eliminate unnecessary excavation or insulation removal, and offer significant cost savings. With 2R Inspection, your critical infrastructure stays protected — even when access is limited.
